John Morton Confirmed to be Head of ICE The Executive Calendar of the Senate Congressional Record for May 12, 2009 reflects that John Morton was confirmed as Assistant Secretary of Homeland Security. He will be the head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
May 11, 2009 H-1B Cap Count
On May 11, 2009 USCIS updated the count of H-1B petitions received and counted towards the H-1B cap on the USCIS website. As of May 11, 2009, approximately 45,000 H-1B cap-subject petitions and approximately 20,000 petitions qualifying for the advanced degree cap exemption had been filed. USCIS will continue to accept both cap-subject petitions and advanced degree petitions until a sufficient number of H-1B petitions have been received to reach the statutory limits, taking into account the fact that some of these petitions may be denied, revoked, or withdrawn.

Obama Administration Continues to Signal its Push for Comprehensive Immigration Reform
The Obama administration continues to indicate that Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) is on the agenda. Recently DHS Secretary Napolitano reiterated her support for the DREAM act, and yesterday White House officials unveiled a $27 billion plan for border and transportation security as part of the 2010 budget.

On May 5, 2009 USCIS updated the count of H-1B petitions received and counted towards the H-1B cap on the USCIS website. As of May 4, 2009, approximately 45,000 H-1B cap-subject petitions and approximately 20,000 petitions qualifying for the advanced degree cap exemption had been filed. USCIS continues to accept advanced degree petitions stating that experience has shown that not all petitions received are approvable.
