Diversity Visa/Green Card Lottery Program Scrutinized After Blunder |

|
June 6, 2011 – The Inspector General of the State Department has agreed to review the Diversity Visa Lottery blunder after 22,000 applicants who initially won the lottery were later informed that they would have to re-apply because of a glitch in the system.
The computer glitch selected 90% of the applicants from the first two days of registration instead of the entire registration period of 30 days.
The draw was considered void since it did not fairly represent a random selection as required by law. The federal lottery program awards U.S. resident status to applicants from countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S.
