Once I graduate, can I apply for another H1B or, since I applied for an extension already, do I have to leave the US? PDF Print E-mail

Q: My current H1B visa expires in April of '05 so I will be starting the process of applying for my H1B extension. I am also applying for Graduate school and would be starting in Fall of '05, which means that I would only be using the extension for a couple of months. Once I graduate, can I apply for another H1B or, since I applied for an extension already, do I have to leave the US? 

A: You can apply for another H1B extension in the U.S. so long as you have not exhausted 6 full years on H1B status.
